This week our message comes to us from the Prince of the Oracle of the Realm, who invites us to see evidence or our immense value in our experiences. In other words, let’s be heroes and let’s see the heroes in others.
Enchanted Message
This week I think I broke my toe! That’s a one of the most exciting events of my physical realm life experience. And I am heroically responding to it by deepening my relationship with that toe, taking its advice to slow down and baby myself a little, and taking a load off. Yep… sitting back, putting my feet up and reflecting on the heroics of this week.
MY HUSBAND, THE HERO
And I’m not the only hero around. My husband heroically trekked to Germany where he worked 12-hour days for 3 weeks straight to add beauty to a luxury cruise ship. He didn’t get to venture beyond the rails of that ship in its dry-dock cradle, but he did get to make magic in the eyes of all who will behold the rooms and venues of that seafaring vessel.
Then, after a 21-hour homecoming travel day and subsequent delirious reunion with me and our kitty, he got a jet-laggy night’s sleep and woke up to do the most heroic thing possible in my universe this morning…
On Friday, I had called my mom hoping she might have a cowboy hat from a party we had attended in April, because my two cowboy hats were just gone. After six weeks of unpacking my new home, I finally opened the last box with no luck. If she couldn’t find hers I would have to get a new one, since it was my preferred brand of sunscreen for my face. Even though I felt in my soul that my favorite just couldn’t be gone forever, I was willing to accept the facts and move on.
That brings us to today’s heroics… this morning, while my husband was heroically making me breakfast, he looked down from his skyscraper sightline into a grocery bag that was against the wall on our breakfast bar amid a camouflaging cacophony of unpacked junk, and saw it. My cowboy hat! The one with my birthday “412” magically stamped on its tag for some manufacturing purpose. I knew the “tall” in that tall man was something special! My hero!
HEROES ALL AROUND ME
Wow, and now I’m starting to see that there’s more to the heroics of this week than I thought… on my way to pick up my husband at the airport last night, here’s what happened….
- My Grampa George came to me in spirit to remind me how he gave his life to save a young woman from a man with a shotgun and criminal intentions.
- My college boyfriend, Barrett Holmen, who lived with such charismatic zest for life and heroically died doing what he loved, joined my grandfather in spirit to nod at me as I remembered that I am made of noble stock.
- The pilot of my husband’s airplane heroically delivered my husband and hundreds of his fellow commuter brothers and sisters to solid ground.
- Emergency vehicles heroically stopped traffic to save the lives of my fellow commuter brothers and sisters.
And today I am just dazzled to understand now, why all of these seemingly unconnected events occurred at once last night… to make sure we get the nod that says YES WE ARE HEROIC and IT’S TIME TO REALIZE IT.
US, THE HEROES
We are all valuable just because we exist, and all that we do to care for ourselves and others is epically heroic. And the same is true for the people around us. They are epically heroic, too. When we look for and see the heroes in the ones we love AND in the ones we tend to find fault in, we not only provide a potentially life-changing service to them, but we also do ourselves the huge service of making our time with them epically more enjoyable. Everybody wins!
I could have missed the heroes in the events above by finding something to be angry about… I was careless and hurt my toe, my husband left me with all his domestic responsibilities for a long time, my grandfather risked his life and left me without his rare brand of encouragement and support, those emergency vehicles made my commute longer. Similarly I could have taken my husband’s cooking, his tall stature, or the pilot’s skills for granted. But instead I went for the heroics and you can feel for yourself how much better it feels to read the paragraphs above that it does to read this one. This is the power of internal storytelling to change lives.
So, go tell your stories about …
- My kid, the hero.
- My partner, the hero.
- My boss, the hero.
- My fellow commuter, the hero.
- Me, the hero.
And if you’re finding it tricky to find the hero in some of these people, The Dungeon, The Round Table, and The Treasury chapters of my book The Realm: Claim Your Total Magnificence offers insight, guidance and worksheets for this very purpose.

Epic Storytelling & Soulful Parenting
For me, the heroics go on and on as the magic continues to bring me opportunities to experience them:
- Epic Storytelling: A new door has opened that is allowing me to “make” heroes of regular people by working with them to create an epic short story about each of their lives.
- Soulful Parenting: Twice in two weeks I’ve had the chance to make heroes of parents and their children by telling them the true stories about their situations.
And in my final heroic act for this week’s message…
I’M OFF TO THE PARK FOR CAMP SOUL CANDY…
to make magical heroes of all…
